“There is absolutely no way someone can go from literally sitting on their couch in the worst shape of their life on January 5th to running the Boston Marathon on April 21, especially at 42 years old,” I said to Jake Maulin on the first Monday, January 6, of 2014. Jake replied, “you can, if you want to, and are willing to do the work. I can get you ready. You can absolutely do this.” Well, yesterday, Monday, April 21, 2014, I absolutely did it. I ran, with my brother and my friend Lorna- both of whom did not work out with Jake but piggy backed on my program, from Hopkinton to Boylston Street. I crossed the finish line in4:42, but easily could have run 4:20- except I was having WAY to much fun to care about my time. I ran free and easy, slapping fives, saying thanks, and being grateful, just like Jake told me too. The training was rough, not made easier by the brutal winter. However Jake’s dedication, perseverance, knowledge, positivity and drive made it all seem doable. I could never have done it without him. You can do more than you think you can, and if you are even considering a run, cycle, hike, or climb-your first call should be to Jake at Trijake Fitness. (Leo F.)
