Three Cheers for TriJake

The day of this class, I walked in secretly hoping it wouldn’t kick my ass. It was super early, my hamstrings were insanely tight from a previous workout, and I just wasn’t looking forward to fluorescent lighting blasting my face at 6:30AM. Thankfully, things took a turn for the better as soon as the music turned and the legs got pedaling.

Jake:

Energy: It’s pretty obvious motivating and coaching come naturally to Jake. He was super enthused to be in the studio and filled the ride with encouragement, calling us “team” and would say, “you guys are looking good, all looking reeeeeeeeeeal good!”
Funny: I couldn’t help but laugh when Jake would tell us to turn up our resistance, and he would run over to the instructor bike and turn up the resistance on the bike he wasn’t riding. His bro fist pumping and air guitar playing were also pretty great.
Garb. Wearing sneakers, shorts, and a shirt that read, “I want to run like TriJake.” Apparently Jake has branded himself as TriJake.
Celebribaby. If Tom Cruise (with long hair) and an Aqua di Gio model had a baby, it would look like Jake. HOLY COW, Jake is an attractive individual.
Locks of love. Chin length brown hair kept out of his face with a navy bandana.
Injured. He had a shoulder injury, which prevented him from riding with us. Even worse, he forgot his sling. Youch.

The Class:

Form + Positions: Briefly went over positions 1, 2, and 3.
Jumps: We did quite a few jumping sets, although the transitions were pretty slow. A-OK with me… easier on the knees and crotchal region!
Climbs: A mix of seated and standing climbs.

Sprints: Seated sprints that were on the easier side, although the last sprint towards the end of class was killer. Totally huffing and puffing and sweating all over.
Smooth Cycling: We ended class on a flat road, pedaling at a solid cadence. Not easy, not hard, just right. Jake agreed, saying this was his favorite kind of cycling, and he likes to do it for a few hours at a time. Hmmm… that’s some impressive endurance!

Ambiance

Music: A total mix of music, with highlights including ACDC, Rihanna, and a super clubby tune that made me feel like I was in Miami at 2AM.

Conclusion:

Jake’s enthusiasm and energy (andcoughcoughgoodlookscoughcough) left me feeling upbeat and ready to tackle the day. Jake said it best; “cycling is fun, nice, and relaxing”, and that’s exactly how I felt during this class.
