5 things to focus on besides the number on the scale by Alexa Massie
We’ve all heard the advice… ditch the scale! Who cares about the number anyways! While I TOTALLY agree with this, I also think that it’s important to have some kind of goal, or metric to measure your hard work!
If the number looking back at you on the scale seems to deter you from success… then focus on these other equally, if not more important signs of success!
1.) Your performance in your workouts. Are you suddenly able to make it through a whole class with more energy? Consider that a win! Are you able to lift more weight? Run longer distances? These are all great ways to measure success without worrying about the scale.
2.) Progress pictures! It’s super easy to think that you’ve been working so hard for so long and nothing is changing. Take pictures!! On the first day of your journey.. take a full-length photo of yourself.. and after 2-4 weeks take another set of photos.. put them side by side and be amazed at just how far you’ve come! Its super encouraging to see the changes in your body that you didn’t think were there!
3.) The fit of your clothes. Are your pants suddenly looser? Tank tops sliding off your shoulders a bit? All signs of improvements and success!! Reward yourself and go get yourself some new clothes!
4.) Energy levels. Did you survive off of caffeine prior to your fitness journey starting? Do you notice now that you don’t need that second or third cup of caffeine to make it to the end of your day? Exercise provides such amazing endorphins that boost energy levels throughout your day!
5.) Last, but probably most important is your outlook on things. Exercise and eating right tends to give you a more positive spin on things in your daily life. Feeling successful in the gym and in the kitchen can lead to feeling successful in other aspects of your daily life. It can give you a better outlook on your job, and other roles you take on.
There are so many ways to measure success on your fitness journey, but the most important thing is that you start. Start now and I promise you, you won’t regret it.
